Durum Field Day on 28.06.2011 in Bernburg-Strenzfeld

Saalemühle Alsleben GmbH, BARO Aschersleben and Gekra Querfurt issue invitation.

Flour quality starts in the field – as does the process of persuasion. That is why we are giving farmers from the region the unique opportunity to get to know durum wheat cultivation close up: directly in the field.

In a large-scale trial on land owned by DLG Bernburg-Strenzfeld, five different types of durum wheat are being cultivated side by side on an area of 25 ha and compared in a detailed analysis: from stock control to the harvest and subsequent quality assessment.

At the Durum Field Day on 28.06.2011, we want to take the opportunity to make the various aspects of durum wheat cultivation tangible in the truest sense of the word for interested farmers. For this purpose, the programme includes a field inspection, a detailed explanation of the trial and additional specialist presentations. The objective is to create a more professional environment for the cultivation of durum wheat and to provide an opportunity for the exchange of experiences.

Saalemühle Alsleben GmbH has already for many years been promoting durum wheat cultivation in central Germany. Our durum mill – one of the most modern in Europe – has been in operation since 2008. Already two years before the first milling, intensive consultation work was started and the first cultivation contracts were concluded. For right from the outset, quality assurance was our top priority. That is why a maximum share of home-grown durum wheat is especially important to us. And we thus give our partners in agriculture the security of a comprehensive cultivation and marketing concept.

One result of these efforts is that up to 2010 the durum wheat cultivation area in Saxony-Anhalt had increased from 1000 ha to 7000 ha. This proves that durum wheat cultivation in central Germany is not only a great opportunity, but also a project with a future. Of which we want to convince more farmers at the Durum Field Day.
